Promoting a fair and safe trading environment

We aim to ensure honesty in business activities, so that consumers are treated fairly and traders can compete in a fair and competitive environment.

How do we do this?

  • carry out routine inspections of businesses within the borough to ensure compliance with the legislation
  • risk assess each business so that our inspections are targeted in the most effective way
  • where there is a serious problem with the safety of products we issue safety warnings
  • if necessary we may prosecute
  • for information on enforcement action we have taken please go to the name and shame pages
  • we also offer advice to businesses on how best to comply with the law
  • investigate consumer complaints alleging breaches of criminal legislation, try to rectify problems and consider legal action, where appropriate, under our enforcement policy.

Redbridge is a member of London Trading Standards Authorities (LoTSA) and works in partnership with Consumer Direct to give advice to consumers and businesses on legislation and rights.

If you are not sure who your local Trading Standards Authority is you can find out at Trading Standards Central
