Promoting a fair and safe trading environment
We aim to ensure honesty in business activities, so that
consumers are treated fairly and traders can compete in a fair and
competitive environment.
How do we do this?
- carry out routine inspections of businesses within the borough
to ensure compliance with the legislation
- risk assess each business so that our inspections are targeted
in the most effective way
- where there is a serious problem with the safety of products we
issue
safety warnings
- if necessary we may prosecute
- for information on enforcement action we have taken please go
to the
name and shame pages
- we also offer
advice to businesses on how best to comply with the
law
- investigate consumer complaints alleging breaches of criminal
legislation, try to rectify problems and consider legal action,
where appropriate, under our enforcement policy.
