Ilford – for you, for me, for all – our manifesto for change

Published: 30 Jan 2017

Today I launched the Ilford Manifesto, this document sets out a number of promises aimed at reclaiming the Ilford town’s place as the heart of a modern east London.

A packed audience of local businesses, organisations, partners and residents heard how Ilford Town Centre is one of London’s most exciting regeneration opportunities.

Ilford is already a great London location, benefiting from excellent transport links, proximity to high performing schools and access to green spaces.

As an east London town, Ilford is well placed to benefit from some of the city’s most significant growth prospects, offering employment for local residents and markets for Redbridge companies.

The town is poised to grow considerably between now and 2030 which will see up to 6,000 new homes and 2,000 new jobs within the town centre as new development comes forward. In recent years, growth in Ilford has outperformed other parts of the borough and this trend is set to continue, with 40% of future housing growth expected to occur in Ilford.

As one of the Mayor’s Housing Zones, construction work has already started to deliver the first 600 homes, with initial completions in 2018. We expect new development to open up opportunities for our residents to secure training, apprenticeships and jobs.

I believe that our manifesto sets out our vision for Ilford, however we are not setting out to deliver this alone. As local businesses and stakeholders in the future of Ilford town centre we will work with you to deliver on these promises to make Ilford a place for you, for me, for all.
