Academia Apulia UK Awards

Feb 10

On Friday evening, we visited the Accademia Apulia UK Photographic Awards for 2011 at the Royal Horse guards at Whitehall.

The exhibits were on the theme “Migration, Storeys of a Journey”.  A number of photographs stood out including one of a group of refugees in a large rowing boat at night and a photograph of a family who had migrated from Uzbekistan to Germany outside their new house with their furniture.

The winner was Paolo Patrizi, who shot a series of photographs of Nigerian prostitutes in Rome, a chilling reminder that human trafficking and slavery are still prevalent in the world today.

I was there too – great exhibition, I agree.
The photograph of boat carrying the human cargo, off the coast of Lampedusa, made me stop and think.
